Is there a way to connect cable TV to my computer and then record TV on my hard drive?

I have cable TV. The Coaxial cable is a (I know that is not the correct way to write it but do not have time to look up) by cable. I want to be able to connect somehow somewhere on my computer. Once you reach this stage, that is, if I can get to this stage, is there a program for a species that can record what is coming through the cable?
