Can I connect a satellite receiver (Direct TV) to a computer system? If so, how?

We have our television receiver directly connected to our TV 720p, and in the next room is our desktop computer. We would like to surf the internet and Watch Tv while on the same monitor, Is this possible through a special video card or monitor that supports PIP? If so what do I need? Thank you. I should also add that I would like leave the receiver connected to TV also. Now I've connected through component cables, which leaves a free HDMI port. It is also possible to change the channel from another room? There will be a wall between the receiver and the computer so that the traditional IR controller will not work.
